In the mountainous surrounds of Hong Kong, road tunnels provide vital commuter links. Each day, more than 90,000 vehicles can pass through the Serco-operated Lion Rock Tunnel
In such a busy system, the safe, smooth-running of the tunnel is down to co-operation and trust

RAF Fylingdales

For 40 years, despite repeated competitive re-tendering, Serco has retained the contract to operate and maintain the UK Ballistic Missile Early Warning System at RAF Fylingdales.

In fact, Serco has been associated with the site since 1959, when RCA provided most of the workforce to construct and install the radar system. Today, Serco operates the technical facilities at the base and maintains the four-minute warning defence system, as well as providing comprehensive day-to-day support to RAF personnel on-site.

RAF Fylingdales has been a cornerstone contract for Serco. It provided a model when the UK's Ministry of Defence began outsourcing the operation and maintenance of further defence installations and facilities in the 1980s. It also formed the origins of our systems engineering business.

The RAF Fylingdales project was the first ever contract outsourced by the UK government. It is testament to Serco's level of service and continued ability to change with the times that we retain this contract today.

"I am delighted to hear that Serco will continue to support RAF Fylingdales. Serco and the RAF have established a long term relationship which is founded upon partnership, mutual respect and trust."
