In the mountainous surrounds of Hong Kong, road tunnels provide vital commuter links. Each day, more than 90,000 vehicles can pass through the Serco-operated Lion Rock Tunnel
In such a busy system, the safe, smooth-running of the tunnel is down to co-operation and trust

We improve services by managing people, processes, technology and assets more effectively.

Continental Europe and Middle East

Our early successes in government IT outsourcing – our original core activity in Europe – have been an excellent platform for us. We’ve been able to enter new and evolving market sectors as financial, political and social pressures drive governments towards new models of outsourcing.

IT support customers include the European Commission, the European Space Agency and Italian regional and central government. We provide a range of technical and engineering services at the European Particle Physics Laboratory (CERN), close to Geneva.

Although our involvement in the defence sector in mainland Europe is relatively new, we’ve established increasingly important relationships with the German Ministry of Defence and the Dutch Navy. In Italy the outsourcing of non-core government services is now the norm and we have won our first facilities management contract there, building on our established government IT support work. Following our success as the operator of the newly-opened Copenhagen Metro, we’re looking to further extend our light rail and traffic management expertise into continental Europe.

We’ve been working in the Middle East since 1947 and have a substantial presence there – around 750 staff in the United Arab Emirates, for example. Our solid contract base in aerospace and air traffic services provides a platform for further diversification and growth into new markets including transport, technology and facility management services.
