BiTC recognises Serco's work in the community

Serco has been recognised for its work in the community with a Gold Rating for the sixth year running in the Business in the Community (BiTC) Corporate Responsibility Index, the UK's leading benchmark of corporate responsibility. This award is alongside similar recognition in Australia, where for the second year running a Gold Rating has been achieved by Serco in the BiTC Australian Index.

Serco's rating in the 2011 BiTC's Corporate Responsibility Index is a reflection of our commitment to supporting and contributing to the communities in which we work and to making a positive impact on society. In the awards each company is rated on a number of criteria including their corporate responsibility strategy and performance. The Gold award places Serco alongside other well known companies who have also achieved a similar rating.

Serco's joint venture, Northern Rail has also been accredited with a BiTC Big Tick award for its work towards a low carbon economy. This is partly in recognition of Northern Rail's development of a new technique for calculating the carbon footprint of rail travel which is now being used as the industry standard for effectively measuring the carbon footprint per rail passenger kilometre.

BitC works with over 830 UK companies committed to improving their impact on society, and operates throughout the UK, It is an organisation that works with businesses to improve their Corporate Social Responsibility credentials.
