Education Bradford
Serco has signed a 10 year contract with Bradford Metropolitan District Council for the provision of education support services to the District’s schools. The new service, named Education Bradford, started on 30th July 2001 when central educational staff and assets transferred to Serco.
This contract is the largest of its type to be awarded to a private sector provider in the UK to date; it involved the TUPE transfer of 1172 members of staff and has a full contract life value of £360 million, or €540 million.
The service is responsible for the provision of school improvement services, interfaith provision, special educational needs, learning support, personnel, finance, policy and planning, data and research, admissions, exclusions, music, library and outdoor education services. The provision for nursery schools, continuing education and buildings remained with the local authority.
The key priority for Education Bradford is to raise levels of achievement for pupils across the district. We will follow the UK Department for Education and Skills (DfES) guidance on intervention in inverse proportion to success – i.e. to give additional help to schools with particular problems while maintaining a basic entitlement of support for all schools.
