Communication Optimisation

The world of communication moves at exceptional speed. The prevalence of mobile devices, and reasonably harmonised development environments has led to a convergence of communications and presence aware applications.

Serco has considerable experience in the application of advanced integration technologies to drive business strategy, working with world leading partners, Serco has the skills and experience to be able to understand, support and realise the vision of our customers.

unified communications

Unified Communications are one of the transforming technologies,  at Bradford Council, in the UK, Serco were able to realise £5.8m worth of savings as part of the iWorld system - part of this was a saving in terms of power consumption (through a programme of virtualisation) saving over £100,000  and an environmental benefit equivalent to planting 3,800 trees annually.

The unification of all communication devices inside a single platform provides the mobility, presence, and contact capabilities that extend beyond the phone to all devices a person may use or have at their disposal.

Key in the delivery of unified communications is  their integration with business processes and workflow applications. The "presence" awareness of these systems enables increased automation and can eliminate human latency in the process (for example; the system can automatically forward requests to appropriately skilled, available individuals automatically). By communication- or voice-enabling business processes and applications, communications can be initiated within the application, making it easier to notify and interact with others to resolve a problem.

From the use of combined, presence aware messaging , IP telephony, email and fax services, to the deployment of collaborative electronic whiteboards, Serco has comprehensive experience which we bring to bear when analysing, with our customers, the vision for unified communications  - reviewing how they can benefit the business, identifying key measurement points and workflow requirements.

"The concept of unified communications is not a new thing. The phenomenon of the 20th Century has been the development of communications mechanisms, their miniaturisation and their mobilisation. The internet has provided a basis of communication and of information flow which has reinvented and touched almost every aspect of day to day life. The convergence of internet, voice and video, and the prevalence of instant messaging have changed our habits and even relationships."
