Outsourcing
Outsourcing, or contracting out, is a flexible management tool which allows organisations to concentrate on their core activities. Depending upon the organisation the range of support can include a specialist consultant, a service team working to Service Level Agreements, a complete facility which requires facilities management and IT support, or the design, build, finance and operation of a new or refurbished facility. The benefit for the client is in the flexibility of the model which can be changed to best suit the client’s requirements.
Serco has over 40 years experience in providing outsourced services to public and private sector customers. The Service Management of operational contracts and the Change Management methodology needed to adapt an activity or facility to where the client wants it to be are central to the Serco approach.
In many cases the initial step to outsource is the hardest of all. The end objectives of full visibility of service quality, transparency of cost structures or the transfer of responsibility may be apparent but how is the objective reached? A primary decision for every client of Serco’s has been to decide that which they want to undertake with their own staff and that which they do not, i.e. what is core or non-core to their organisation’s success?
