Meet the Team
Dr Stephen Duckworth, OBE, Director
Stephen was appointed as Director of the Institute in June 2011, following leading roles in research, operations and strategy. He joined Serco in 2009, as Regional Director of a West Midlands Welfare to Work contract, subsequently taking on the role of Strategic Development Director. Stephen initially qualified in medicine before undertaking a PhD focusing on Disability and Employment. Prior to joining Serco Stephen founded and managed his own research and consultancy business for twenty years. He has been a non-executive director of the Olympic Delivery Authority, Member of the Disability Equality Delivery Board and Director of the Employers' Forum on Disability. Previously, he sat on the Department of Health's National Quality Board and was a Council Member of the University of Southampton.
Jeanette Thompson, Office Manager/PA to Stephen Duckworth
Jeanette joined the Institute in September 2005, moving from Headmasters Partnership Limited where she had been Senior Administrator to the Education Team. She has had major corporate and plc board level experience and now supports the general running of the Institute as office manager. Jeanette provides research assistance and communications support, contributing to the building and maintenance of the Serco Institute Resource Centre, and co-ordinating Institute activity within the wider Serco Group.
Alexis Sotiropoulos, Policy Analyst
Alexis joined the Institute in August 2006 having worked for the National Offender Management Service and, prior to that, the Department of Trade and Industry. He has a law degree from the University of Cambridge and an MA in legal and political theory from University College London, where he studied at the School of Public Policy. Alexis is currently researching a wide range of material for the Institute's research programme and the Serco Institute Resource Centre.
Peter May, Policy Analyst
Peter has an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of St Andrews and an MSc in public policy from the London School of Economics. He has worked on a wide range of Institute projects, most recently the Better Outcomes reports with the 2020 Public Services Trust.
