Serco is unusual among public service companies in the wide range of market sectors which it covers – defence and aerospace, science and technology, public transportation and traffic management, health and education, justice and homeland security, utilities and municipal government. Over the years, Institute staff have also studied other sectors where public sector procurement and contract management have been closely managed, such as defence equipment, construction, and waste management.
