Spain

The Spanish market for public service contracting is developing, although the government has been slow to introduce a dedicated PPP unit, as many other European countries have now chosen to do. The current government is broadly in favour of the use of private finance in infrastructure renewal and development. And a number of large projects have been announced in recent years, with noticeable activity in the roads sector.

Funding and funding decisions often take place at regional level in Spain. And contracts are often let at regional community level, rather than with municipal authorities.
