This section of the Resource Centre contains resources and documents that chart and contextualise current UK policy and debate on issues related with competition and contracting in UK public services. The UK has a long history of contracting for public services in some sectors, such as prisons and railway construction. References and sources from previous eras of UK public sector contracting are found in the Subjects section of the Resource Centre, under the History section. By contrast, the material contained in this section is concerned with the most recent round of competition and contracting in the UK, which began in the 1980s, and has evolved considerably since. Today, the UK provides one of the most advanced case studies in the world, of the use of competition and contracting in the reform of public infrastructure and services.
