Migration (or conversion), is perhaps the most underestimated task in system implementation projects - particularly in EDRM.
In many EDRM projects, the information requiring management is unstructured and has not been controlled effectively. This includes informally managed paper files in addition to large volumes of electronic information held on shared drives, personal drives and in e-mail environments. The significant volumes involved, widespread distribution, and lack of formal management combine to make analysis of this subject particularly demanding.
Migration is disruptive to everyday working and can be expensive and time consuming. It is essential to identify what information will be migrated, what will be kept, what will be discarded and how. It is also important to establish how these tasks will be resourced.
