Forensic Medical Services
Serco Health works with West Yorkshire Police to provide non-emergency medical and forensic services to police custody suites throughout the entire region of West Yorkshire.
Our Serco team includes medical professionals, call handlers and managers, who are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and provide support for core Forensic Medical Examination work and victims of crime. Services provided include dealing with the medical needs of detainees and gathering physical evidence from victims and suspects, with the evidence we gather on behalf of the police being vital to achieve any convictions in subsequent criminal proceedings.
We cover 14 Custody suites, 12 hospitals and 5 Medical examination rooms on a daily basis and provide bespoke scenario-based training for Custody staff.
Our call handlers in the call centre receive over 250,000 calls every year from members of the public, of which 66,000 are related to medical enquiries, whilst we see over 41,000 people detained each year.
We recognise that the service we deliver is critical both to our customers in the police and to the extremely vulnerable patients that we serve. The performance of the contract has increased consistently to exceed 95%, with the current monthly performance average at 97%.
