The prison provides a broad and balanced curriculum and seeks to provide an excellent learning environment within a custodial setting. All the young people receive at least 27 hours of education per week. They are assessed to establish their levels in literacy and numeracy and then placed accordingly into classes for mathematics, English, life skills, IT, music and art.
HMP and YOI Ashfield assess all juvenile offenders' right from the start of their sentence as part of a resettlement programme considering all aspects of the juvenile's life. We currently run specific resettlement programmes, namely a forklift driver course and community service volunteering.
HMP and YOI Ashfield has been described as "one of the best juvenile establishments in the country".
