Court Escorting and Custody Services

Serco Court Escorting and Custody Services provide the safe and secure transportation of prisoners from Police Stations and HM Prisons to Courts to attend hearings and trials.

The Current contract commenced operations on 29th August 2004 and is an initial contract for a period of 7 years ending on the 28th August 2011.

Whilst at Court, our staff manage Custody Suites and provide prisoners with access to legal teams, deal with important prisoner issues, provide medical services as required and provide hot meals and refreshments. We also accompany prisoners in courtroom docks.

We transport prisoners to and from 23 Crown Courts and 66 Magistrates Courts in a geographical area that covers the London and South East areas of the UK - this includes many of the high profile Courts such as The Royal Courts of Justice and the Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey).

We have an excellent working relationship with 26 HM Prisons and 120 Police Stations across several Police Forces and utilise a fleet of over 200 specialist cellular vehicles.

We handle approx 300,000 prisoners per annum and have a staff force of 1400 employees operating from 11 bases across London and the South East - with a Head Office and Control Centre in Banbury, Oxfordshire.

Our main customer is Prisoner Escorts Management (PEM) which is a unit within the National Offender Management Services (NOMS) area of the Ministry of Justice.
