Immigration Control

Serco works closely with the Home Office's UK Border Agency to help the Government manage migration successfully and currently operate one Immigration Removal Centre (IRC) in the UK; Yarl's Wood IRC. Serco is also an approved provider for overseas court escorting tasks.

In June 2009, Serco signed a contract with the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) to transform its Immigration Removal Centres across the country.

Under the contract, Serco manages 7 Immigration Removal Centres where we provide a greater focus on the dignity, respect and well-being of people in our care. 5 Immigration Detention Centres are located at Villawood, New South Wales; Maribyrnong, Victoria; Darwin, Northern Territory; Perth, Western Australia; and Christmas Island. Serco will also provide services at two alternative places of detention on Christmas Island.

In December 2009, Serco signed a second contract with the Australian Government to manage its Immigration Residential Housing and Immigration Transit Accommodation centres across Australia.

We are currently working with the UK Border Agency, in a case working context, on an initiative to reduce the backlog of legacy asylum cases.
