Communications

Serco provide many different vehicle builds for many different purposes, including specific surveillance builds.

Serco has been involved with supplying radio communications services to Police customers since 1991. Over recent years the services, as applies to covert equipment and vehicles, have expanded to provide dozens of different vehicle builds for specific surveillance or command processes. All of the builds have been inspected and approved by the Automotive & Equipment Section of the Integrated Communications Technology Unit, now part of PITO.

Commissioning

Serco is able to offer a service with respect equipment installations:

  • Covert and semi-covert.
  • Secure radio.
  • Public Warning Equipment.
  • Other Specialist equipment.
  • Various Surveillance and Command vehicle builds - working towards a one stop-shop for all types of applications and vehicles.
  • Duel PMR/TETRA covert installations.          

Delivery/Collection

Through the use of suitable recovery/towing platforms, newly commissioned vehicles can and are being delivered for the user sites anywhere in England and Wales - with Scotland now in the planning stages. Those vehicles at the end of service can be collected.

A key-for-key service of delivering and collection is possible and, where it currently exists, operates well.


Field Maintenance

A team of suitably trained and cleared radio engineers are strategically positioned to provide country-wide support to direct user sites.

  • Fully mobile in innocuous support vehicles.
  • Equipped with a full range of test equipment and spares. 

Decommissioning

End of service vehicles are returned to a Serco support site where: 

  • All equipment and cabling is carefully removed and prepared for reuse.
  • The vehicles are carefully examined to ensure that they are clear of any material which could provide information as to their previous users use.          

Preparation is made for auction house disposal.
