Adult Custody

Our adult prisons provide care right across the custodial spectrum, holding almost 4,000 inmates ranging from those awaiting trial to prisoners serving life sentences.

In all our prisons we strive to hold our inmates safely, securely and with dignity and respect. We are committed to providing them with the education and skills they need to improve their chances of avoiding re-offending after release, while ensuring they confront their offences.

Our commitment to reducing re-offending includes provision of re-settlement services outside the prison, helping ex-inmates find housing and work in the local community.
