Kilmarnock Healthcare
We offer a full range of healthcare facilities. The prison employs a full time doctor and eleven nurses who have a mixture of Registered Mental Nurse (RMN) and Registered General Nurse (RGN) qualifications. In addition, in-house services are provided for Dentistry, Psychiatry, Podiatry, Physiotherapy and non-urgent x-ray. We also have an optician.
There is a part-time Learning Disabilities Tutor who works with prisoners in the sixteen bed in-patient facility.
Patients can be referred to other NHS specialists as and when required.
In addition we have an Addiction Team based at the prison. This team has an Addiction Co-ordinator, four Addiction Caseworkers, two Alcohol Caseworkers, a Mandatory Drug Test officer and Addiction Nurse. The team works in partnership with the Lighthouse Foundation - a charitable organisation that works with prisoners' families in the community. Some of the services provided to the prisoner include:
- One to one support with a named caseworker
- Twenty-eight day drug support programme
- Advanced drug awareness programme
- Alcohol awareness programme
- Harm reduction information and advice sessions
- Relaxation sessions
- Advice and advocacy
In partnership with the prison healthcare centre, prisoners can access an addiction clinic. A methodone programme is also available for eligible prisoners. Medical detoxification regimes can also be accessed through this forum.
