Kilmarnock Recreation

We have a Physical Education Department which offers a wide variety of educational and recreational activities. We support all prisoners and staff in their efforts to gain and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Some of our activities include:

  • Remedial physical training, which is offered to prisoners who have physical ailments and who also receive physiotherapy. This session is also offered to prisoners over the age of thirty-five so that they can use the weights room. Prisoners under thirty-five can develop their personal fitness by participating in circuit training.
  • Healthcare in-patients have full use of this facility on a daily basis. It helps to motivate them and encourages mental as well as physical development.
  • Remand prisoners are offered recreational physical training. This provides the opportunity for them to spend quality time participating in sport ranging from football to badminton.
  • We run competitions in strongman, indoor and outdoor football, short tennis, badminton and volleyball. these activities are very popular and well attended by mainstream and protected prisoners.
  • We encourage educational opportunities and many prisoners gain an SQA qualification.
