All courses are accredited with external qualifications. Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) are being introduced. ILPs are education plans which have short-term and long-term targets plus measured progress against those targets. The average stay for our young persons is sixteen weeks. Accordingly education is delivered in modules of twelve weeks along with a two week induction programme and a week long resettlement programme. Special programmes are provided for those with short sentences, the vulnerable and those with low ability.
Specialist support is provided for boys with special educational needs and low ability. A full time Special Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) manages a team of Learning Support Assistants. The SENCO is responsible for the deployment of resources in an efficient and effective manner so that we can best support the identified special needs of all the young people in our establishment.
