There is a Stay Safe policy in place which incorporates suicide and self-harm reviews, child protection measures and anti-bullying advice.

The Stay Safe policy is driven by the internal child protection and anti-bullying co-ordinator, Georgina May.

Ashfield also has an internal psychology department which advises on anger management, victim awareness and MORE (motivating offenders to rethink everything).

We have twelve workers who form our Substance Misuse Team. Working closely with other custodial staff, the Substance Misuse Team works with all the young people on interventions for substance use. The aim is to provide a seamless package of care. Using a programme called "Next Step" - a cognitive-behavioural and social skills based programme, the team tackle substance misuse problems.

All young people are initially assessed for substance misuse and they are then educated regarding all substances. The education programme is run twice a day for four weeks and the young people are encouraged to identify their own problems. We offer focussed one-to-one sessions and continual support.

Ashfield is a no-smoking establishment and we offer support and replacement therapy. We have eight trained acupuncturists who provide support to both young people and staff.
