Ashfield Young Offenders Institution

Her Majesty's Prison and Young Offenders Institution Ashfield, in the village of Pucklechurch in Gloucestershire, holds up to 400 males aged between 15 and 18. They are on remand awaiting trial and serving sentences. Their average stay at Ashfield is four months.

During that time they undertake a comprehensive range of purposeful activity designed to enable them to live stable, healthy law-abiding lives after release.

Ashfield opened in 1999. Serco runs it on a 25-year private finance initiative contract with the Youth Justice Board of England and Wales.

A very positive report by HM Inspector of Prisons into Ashfield was published in February 2007. Read our comments here.
