Serco secures £6 million contract as Cambridge City Council extends its commitment to outsourced services

31st July 2006

Serco Group has announced that its Solutions division has signed a £6 million contract renewal with Cambridge City Council. The five year deal extends a six year relationship between the two organisations.

Serco Solutions will provide and support Cambridge City Council’s ICT infrastructure which includes desktop, servers, telephony, network services and business applications.  These services allow 900 Council staff to deliver the full range of Council Services to the citizens of Cambridge City including Housing, Community Services, Environmental Services and Revenues and Benefits services.

The Council will have access to support 24 hours a day, throughout the year. The renewal of these IT outsourcing services to Serco will also help Cambridge City Council to achieve efficiency savings required as part of the Gershon Review.

Serco Solutions was chosen for its experience and expertise in local government and the breadth of services it could provide. Serco Solutions also demonstrated its capability to provide ‘around the clock’ support from its shared services centre in Birmingham.

Rob Hammond, Chief Executive at Cambridge City Council, comments: “We were thoroughly impressed with Serco Solutions’ commitment to Cambridge City Council and their proposals for the renewed contract. Serco Solutions has a strong understanding of our needs and this contract will contribute to long term savings and meeting Gershon targets.”

Joe Bradley, Director of Client Services, Public Sector, Serco Solutions comments: “It is fantastic news that Cambridge City Council has chosen to take forward their relationship with us. We have worked closely with the council to support its requirements and understand its objectives going forward. We were able to deliver more service for less cost through the use of Shared Service Infrastructure and Service Desk Centres.”
