Community Champions
As a key part of our exciting new Environmental Services partnership Serco and Welwyn Hatfield council wish to get local people more involved in the improvement of their local environment.
Community Champions are local volunteers who, whilst out and about are happy to take digital photos of environmental defects such as heavy litter, graffiti, fly posting and fly tipping.
This way, they help us to keep the environment clean by spotting and reporting environmental problems which may otherwise go unnoticed by Council staff and Serco’s service teams.
Following a successful advertising campaign Serco have already recruited 15 Community Champions, one for each electoral ward. Each Champion will be equipped with a new gps enabled digital camera which will directly transfer data relating the location of each defect back to Serco’s service helpdesk.
Armed with this information, Serco’s rapid response teams will operate an intensive clean-up campaign designed to tackle and clear the reported grot spots every week.
Serco are currently in the process of testing the new PDA’s with new software written specially for the scheme. Assuming this testing phase is successful it t is our aim to formerly launch the scheme during September 2006.
If you would wish to register your interest in becoming a Community Champion or if you would like to find out more about the scheme please contact Serco’s local service helpdesk T. 01707 357807 or email WelwynChampions@serco.com.
