West Sussex County Council signs £14 million desktop contract with Serco

Serco today announced it will help West Sussex County Council (WSCC) to save in excess of 25% of its desktop budget over seven years after agreeing a £14 million contract.  Serco will introduce new processes, tools and techniques to manage the desktop services more effectively, delivering improved service levels at a lower cost, whilst also offering access to its wider ITS and business process capabilities.

The new £14m contract forms part of a wider change and transformation initiative that sees WSCC streamlining processes, integrating services and fundamentally changing the way it delivers its business to its residents and partners.

Serco will also work with WSCC to rationalise its printer estate, replacing 2,500 devices with a smaller number of multi-function devices, consolidate its servers and modernise the desktop environment to promote a flexible working environment.  Serco will provide a range of consultancy and technical project services to lead this transformation activity, which will, in turn, support the Council’s wider Sustainability agenda and reduce the Council’s carbon footprint.

The contract also enables WSCC partners to take advantage of the new ways of working. Serco will work with WSCC to share these services across the region to other Districts, agencies and partners, helping to achieve significant economies of scale.

Paul Brocklehurst, CIO, West Sussex County Council comments:
"Serco will assist us in our goals of improving customer service, reskilling our ITS engineers whilst also reducing costs. Serco offer the ideal combination of providing proven solutions, tailored to our specific business need. They have demonstrated a real desire to work with us as a long term strategic partner and to transform our services to the citizens of West Sussex. "

Serco and WSCC teams will integrate to form a seamless service for the Council’s users.  Serco’s enterprise-wide toolset will be used by both parties to enable swifter resolution to end-user problems and build a more detailed knowledge base of the environment, allowing more informed strategic decisions to be made in the future.

Serco has also been awarded a second contract, via the Catalist framework, to undertake an upgrade of WSCC’s SAP environment to the latest ERP2005 version.  In addition to the upgrade, Serco will work with the Council to introduce improved functionality in Business Warehouse, Procurement and support the wider application rationalisation strategy within WSCC.

Jonathan Prew, Managing Director for Local Government, Serco comments:
“This is a very exciting time of change for the Council and we are delighted to have this opportunity to work with WSCC and to support their wider change agenda over the next seven years”.
