Serco is a world leader in managing and supporting public sector research organisations that address economic, social and environmental challenges through science and innovation.

Operating leading research and development organisations

We are responsible for some of the UK's most important national science assets, employing thousands of graduate and PhD-qualified scientists and engineers who work to strengthen the country's security, sustainability and prosperity.

We operate the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) the UK's National Measurement Institute. It is our responsibility to maximise the positive impact of NPL's mission in science and technology, for business and government.

Serco manages the UK Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) as part of a consortium with Lockheed Martin and Jacobs. AWE is one of the most advanced research, design and production facilities in the world, developing the sophisticated materials, quantum physics and computer modelling vital to the safe and effective maintenance of the UK's nuclear deterrent. AWE experts also play a leading role in nuclear non-proliferation and international nuclear security.

We are partnered with Manchester University and Battelle to manage the National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) the leading nuclear technology services provider in the UK. NNL has expertise across the full range of nuclear technology, including waste management, nuclear security and non-proliferation, materials and corrosion and plant inspection.

Serco also provides infrastructure and ICT support services to the Defence, Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl). Dstl provides the Ministry of Defence with the science and technology response to their current and future needs by maximising the impact of research and development for defence and security requirements.
