Serco designs and delivers operational support to improve the availability of people and equipment worldwide

Rail Technologies

Serco Rail Technologies specialise in the design, development, and provision of bespoke measurement and assessment solutions for the rail industry, specifically track geometry, and vehicle condition monitoring.

Central to all Serco Rail Technologies solutions is its ability to provide a persistently high level of locational accuracy when handling and overlaying disparate data sets, potentially recorded by different vehicles, on differing days and over extended timeframes.

In order to ensure the necessary technical assurance required by its clients from initial solution design, throughout development and ongoing service provision, Serco Rail Technologies utilises its own highly skilled team of engineers and scientists who have many years combined technical experience working in this field within the rail industry.

Serco Rail Technologies flexible service-based approach ensures clients a cost-effective and practical path to system adoption, one that is focused on the early benefits realisation.

Serco Rail Technologies also provides Vehicle Engineering Configuration Management Services to the rail industry involving the control, production and distribution of, drawings parts data, including the management of infrastructure data.

Track Geometry

Serco Rail Technologies bespoke Track Geometry solutions are based upon a highly configurable suite of measurement and assessment modules that once deployed act as a primary enabler in the contionous assurance of network integrity, delivering tangible benefits to both infrastructure provider and train operators alike.

Configurable either for attended, or un-attended deployment they enable organisations to overlay disparate track geometry data-sets in a single and configurable view with the complete assurance of locational accuracy at all times. Data is provided via a comprehensive range of best-of-breed data capture modules including track, structures, overhead line equipment, 3rd rail and video.

Whilst the benefits of running unattended, rather than attended, track geometry systems are well established, the underlying success of such a system lies in its ability translate the vast quantities of data collected into meaningful information, without overloading the operator.

Serco Rail Technologies has pioneered the way in combining disparate data sets onto a single network model, persistently delivering the level of locational accuracy demanded of by today’s rail industry, from data recorded by differing vehicles, on different days over extended timeframes.

By doing so Serco Rail Technologies bespoke track geometry solutions enable not only individual faults to be tracked, but also the consequences of actions taken to resolve them, via detailed trend analysis and visualization of subsequent deterioration rates. Most importantly, they provide the catalyst within rail asset management for substantive business process improvement.

Vehicle Condition Monitoring

Serco Rail Technologies bespoke vehicle condition monitoring  solutions are based upon an intuitive analysis and visualisation toolset that overlays disparate data sets provided by a configurable range of in-vehicle sensors, including those focused on monitoring key driving characteristics, via on-board OTMR analyser.

The resulting information provided by them enable significant cost reduction, improved fleet availability and overall customer journey experience to be achieved through the adoption of a pro-active approach to vehicle component failure identification and best practice driving techniques. The resulting information can also be used to improve reliability of service, and to provide a metric of continuous improvement in service levels – vital to ISO 9000 accredited organizations.
