Operational Support

Serco designs and delivers operational support to improve the availability of people and equipment worldwide

Abnormal Loads

Serco have the capability to design, maintain and deliver route planning and tracking of hazardous goods and abnormal loads.

We are working for The Highways Agency in the UK to design, develop, supply and operate an online Electronic Service Delivery for Abnormal Loads (ESDAL) portal for the request, planning and notification of Abnormal Indivisible Loads (AIL) movements by road.

The system will:

  • Allow successful management of AIL movements
  • Create an assisted route-planning tool and automate the notification process
  • Reduce the risk of bridge damage due to unknown or planned loading from AILs
  • Reduce the administrative burden and increase the certainty that notifications are being correctly handled

This service will provide a vital common link between hauliers, the police, structure owners and the government’s Highways Agency AIL team, which will significantly streamline the process for requesting and assessing an AIL movement. The web-based system will ensure that there is no software or hardware costs for users.

In our contracts sections you can find out more about our work with the Electronic Service Delivery for Abnormal Loads (ESDAL).
