Serco sweeps the board at RAF Fylingdales

Date : 02 August 2004

Serco has been awarded two contracts for major defence support tasks in North East England.

The contracts include systems operation, maintenance and repair of the Solid State Phased Array Radar (SSPAR) at RAF Fylingdales, which provides for the detection and warning of ballistic missile attacks against the UK.

This represents a clean sweep for Serco at RAF Fylingdales, where we have been the partner of choice for the last forty years as the only contractor appointed having been successful in ten rebids.

The RAF Fylingdales SSPAR contract, valued at £31 million over eight years, with an option for two further years, involves the operation, maintenance and repair of the Solid State Phased Array Radar and associated hardware including programme design and maintenance.

The second contract provides support services for the UK Air Surveillance and Control System (UK ASACS), which is responsible for ensuring the integrity of UK airspace. The contract involves two previous service contracts being merged into one, valued at £14 million over two and a half years starting in October with the option of two one year extensions.

ASACS Services provided include complex engineering services such as ground support equipment required to service Search and Rescue Helicopters, armoury services, logistical support to the radars, and supply support.

The contract will cover support services at RAF Fylingdales, RAF Boulmer, RAF Buchan, RAF Neatishead, and RRH Staxton Wold.

Andrew White, Serco Defence and Aerospace Chief Executive, said: "We are pleased to reaffirm our position as a trusted key supplier working in long-term partnership with the MoD to deliver value for money solutions and innovation with assured delivery. It is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our staff that we have such a successful partnership with the RAF."

WG CDR P COX, Station Commander RAF Fylingdales added: "I am delighted to hear that Serco will continue to support RAF Fylingdales. Serco and the RAF have established a long-term relationship which is founded upon partnership, mutual respect and trust. Fylingdales is a key defence output and Serco's continued support is most welcome."

Group Captain M K Crayford, Group Captain C2 Support Availability at HQ 3 Gp added: "We are delighted to have worked with Serco over the last seven years in the provision of support services to the UK ASACS units and are looking forward to continuing the excellent relationship."
