Serco Preferred bidder for £70m Naval Air contract
Date : 08 June 2007
Serco has been selected as the preferred bidder for a ten year partnering contract with the Naval Air Command.
The contract, with a core value of £70.5M over ten years from April 2008 and potential for further development, will see Serco providing operational support to the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm. Serco will deliver aviation, engineering and aircraft support at two Royal Naval Air Stations, Yeovilton and Culdrose, building on an existing and highly effective relationship we have with Fleet Headquarters, developed over the past 12 years.
The consequence of our work will be to improve the availability of aircraft and trained aircrew to the Fleet Air Arm at a time of considerable operational pressure, building on the operational support we already provide to the Royal Navy’s aircraft.
Bob McGuiness, Chief Executive of Serco Defence, Science and Technology, said:
“We are extremely pleased to have been appointed preferred bidder for future support to the Naval Air Command. Like all of Serco’s work with the Ministry of Defence, our support to Naval Air Command is dedicated to improving the operational capability of the UK’s armed forces during these challenging times. To that end, we are very much looking forward to strengthening our role in a renewed, long term partnering relationship with the Royal Navy.”
Contract award is scheduled for autumn 2007.
