Ashfield Young Offenders' Institution is 'model of best practice'
Serco is immensely proud of the fact that Ashfield Young Offenders' Institution (YOI) has today received a very positive report from the Chief Inspector of Prisons, Anne Owers.
Ashfield's Director, Vicky O'Dea, said: "I am delighted with this report which recognises the significant achievements here at Ashfield. It is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of my staff. We are committed to holding young people safely, whilst helping to prepare them for a law-abiding life after release."
Healthcare provision at Ashfield was cited as being excellent - indeed the report highlights 25 areas of best practice, such as substance misuse and restorative justice. Young people at Ashfield are able to gain skills and qualifications in a wide range of vocational training, with clear links to future employability.
"Ashfield's managers and staff are to be congratulated on the progress that has been made, and the good practice that has become embedded into the way the establishment is run. The amount and quality of activity available is a model of what ought to be expected and available for all 15 to 18 year olds," commented Ms Owers.
Serco will continue to seek out any areas where improvements can be made, and will carefully consider the recommendations made in the report.
