Derby City Council Transformation gets a boost

Date : 02 December 2008

Derby City Council and Derby Homes have today announced that they will sign a new contract, on 19th December that will see the two organisations enter into a joint procurement, shared service arrangement with Serco for their IT Management and Support. The £19 million contract will be for the next 7 years.

Councillor Michael Carr, Cabinet member for Direct and Internal Services commented "This new contract is fundamental to enabling the transformation of Derby City Council services. This means the Council will be able to adopt innovative approaches to office and home working such as shared workspace, new versatile telephone network system, and rationalisation of servers, all of which are key to the modernisation of the Council services. "We believe this contract offers excellent value for money, not only is there a 3 percent year on year contractual savings built into the contract but the provider is also offering other environmental benefits. The proposed new IT services are environmentally friendly and will reduce our carbon footprint. This will be achieved through energy saving features such as auto shut-off at night and equipment that uses less power".

Jonathan Prew, the Managing Director of Local Government at Serco Solutions added "We are extremely pleased to have been selected by Derby City Council and Derby Homes as the preferred provider for their IT services. It has been a thorough and robust process but in the end we feel we can offer the leading edge technology needed to transform their services over the next 7 years and bring real improvements and efficiencies for the citizens of Derby.

"As part of this contract approximately 40 staff will be based within Derby and it will contribute to Derby's reputation as one of the most 'Hi-tec' cities in the UK having a direct positive impact on its local economy. We are looking forward to being a key long-term partner for the Council and Derby Homes".
