JV Immigration Centre Contract

Premier Detention Services Ltd ("Premier"), a Serco Group plc ("Serco") and Wackenhut Corrections Corporation joint venture Company has been awarded a new contract for the Design, Build, Management and Operation of the new 326-bed Immigration Detention Centre and Short Term Holding Facility at Harmondsworth, Middlesex. The new contract is with the Immigration and Nationality Directorate of the Home Office.
The contract comprises the construction of the new facility valued at £48m and an eight-year operating contract, which will generate revenue of approximately £18m per annum. The Centre will be built by Skanska and will be ready to accept the first detainee in summer 2004.
The Centre will be used for the short-term, who secure accommodation of males refused immigration clearance to reside in the UK and are in the process of being returned to their country of origin. The men will be accommodated at Logford for varying lengths of time, from a few hours to a few days and about 30,000 individuals will pass through the Centre each year. Premier's responsibility will extend to ensure that they will be treated with care, respect and dignity during their stay at Logford.
