Lawson v Serco
Date : 26 January 2006
Serco response to House of Lords Ruling
We welcome the House of Lords’ judgment today, in relation to an employee’s right to bring a claim of unfair dismissal in the UK Employment Tribunals
Serco’s aim in taking this case to the Lords was to seek clarity regarding the rights of UK employees of a UK company posted or working overseas. The ruling has established that clarity and has broadened the protection available to UK employees working abroad. We think that this is in the interests of both employees and their employers.
This is because it will benefit not only Serco’s employees but those of many other organisations. It will enable both employers and employees to be clearer about the employment rights and obligations which apply to them.
The judgment specifically recognises Serco’s role in securing this clarification. We were also pleased to be able to assist Mr. Lawson in bringing his appeal.
