Most Admired Services Company
Date : 28 November 2007
Serco has been declared the UK's fourth most admired company in Britain's longest running and most respected business award programme, Management Today's Britain's Most Admired Companies awards 2007.
And for the fourth year in a row, Serco has also been voted the most admired support services company.
Management Today's Britain's Most Admired Companies awards are considered the Oscars of the British business world and have become a benchmark for excellence.
220 companies - the 10 largest in each of 22 sectors - are rated in nine categories (Quality of Goods and Services, Ability to Attract, Develop and Retain Top Talent, Value As a Long-Term Investment, Quality of Marketing and Use of Corporate Assets), on a scale of one to 10. The scores are the result of rigorous research on behalf of Management Today by Professor Mike Brown of Nottingham Business School, with organisations being judged by their peers, as well as analysts at leading investment companies.
Matthew Gwyther, editor of Management Today, said: "For Serco to come fourth behind established giants like Marks and Spencer, Tesco and Sky is a tremendous achievement. Serco has scored very strongly across the board and won its sector by a huge margin."
Professor Mike Brown, who has researched and produced Most Admired for the past 15 years, said: "We set out to discover which firms have earned the highest respect of their rivals and measure those elements of business success that are often overlooked as they don't appear on a balance sheet. A company's reputation is critical for success and by discovering which firms have earned the highest respect of their rivals we can share best practice."
Chris Hyman, Serco Group Chief Executive, said: "We are very honoured that we are viewed this way. I think it reflects the strong public service ethos that everyone in Serco shows each day whilst delivering services that are essential for life."
