Serco welcomes Julius Review

Date : 10 July 2008

Serco Group chief executive Christopher Hyman today welcomed the publication of the Julius Review - the UK government's first ever assessment of the significant scale, impact and potential of the emerging Public Services Industry.

Serco is a leading international service company employing more than 50,000 people and with operations in 35 countries. More than 90% of the group's revenues come from the public sector.

"Serco is one of the UK's largest employers, with our people providing critical services that we all depend on," said chief executive Christopher Hyman, "whether that's running railways, setting Greenwich Mean Time, providing air traffic control services or improving children's education.

"By blending a strong public service ethos with private sector expertise, we have grown to become a major provider of services to government in the UK and internationally. Consumers around the world are demanding better public services and as the review rightly says, the challenge of getting better services without higher taxation can be met through a competitive approach that encourages efficiency and innovation.

"The Julius Review highlights how companies and the third sector are making major contributions to deliver better value for money services and how the industry could grow substantially and become an export success story for the UK economy."

Next week Serco Group will join the UK government in its trade mission to the US.
