Serco Integrated Transport wins top 2008 Rospa awards

Serco Integrated Transport (SIT) received three prestigious awards from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) during an awards ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel.
For more than 50 years, the awards have celebrated the companies that demonstrate the greatest commitment to health and safety.
David Rawlins, RoSPA awards manager said: "Serco was picked for their awards because of the exceptional and sustained health and safety performance demonstrated over recent years."
Serco Docklands, operator of the Docklands Light Railway, won the sector award for 'Transport, Storage and Distribution', presented annually to the company with the most outstanding performance within specific industries or sectors.
Businesses are only eligible to enter the competition for the award when they can demonstrate a robust and high quality safety management system, together with a minimum of four years' consistently excellent or improving health and safety performance.
As well as winning this sector award, Serco Docklands was selected as a finalist for the coveted Sir George Earle Trophy, presented each year to the single best sector award winning company. Serco's Transportation Systems business, comprising the firm's road specific businesses, won the second place 'highly commended' award in the 'Transport, Storage and Distribution' sector, with Royal Mail posted third.
Receiving gold awards in recognition of a year's excellent health and safety performance were Northern Rail and Merseyrail, both operated by Serco in a joint venture with Dutch operator NedRailways, as well as Serco's Integrated Transport division as a whole.
