Serco, in partnership with NedRailways, is invited to tender for the new West Midlands Rail Franchise

Serco, in partnership with NedRailways, is delighted to be invited by the Department of Transport (DfT) to submit a tender for the award of the new West Midlands passenger rail franchise.This important franchise provides train services to meet commuter and leisure needs for the West Midlands and Home Counties as well as longer distance travellers as far a field as London and Merseyside.
This presents an exciting and challenging opportunity to ensure that local and regional train services contribute to the sustainable economic and social development of these important regions. The Serco-NedRailways approach will build on our successes at Merseyrail and Northern where we have established partnerships which have resulted in improved services to passengers.
In a joint statement Nick Brown, Managing Director of Serco Rail and Anton Valk, Chief Executive of NedRailways said:
“Our aim is to make regional train travel a reliable option for people going about their everyday lives, meeting the particular needs of each area. We are looking forward to developing an exciting proposal for the DfT which will deliver real benefits for passengers, the wider community and Government.
