Excelling at innovation

Fostering an entrepreneurial culture enables us to inspire our people to be creative and innovative in thinking up new ways of working.  So for example, you may wish to nominate someone who has:

  • changed working processes which have delivered real operational value

  • transformed a contract with a new idea

  • used innovative thinking to reduce environmental impacts and protect natural resources

  • used new ideas to stimulate community or charitable activities

  • transformed our approach to safe working practices or occupational health

  • used creative ideas to engage our people or develop skills

For example:

improving the performance of our customer’s technology assets

Jamie French and Sean Bawden

Jamie French and Sean Bawden have spent the last 12 months developing a web based event management system called e-Watchman. The system electronically collects real-time data for the Highways Agency’s HOLGEN system, filters and prioritises the data and automatically sends to roadside engineers. Fault corrective actions are then transmitted back to the e-Watchman by the engineer and stored for analysis.

Jamie has been the focus for identifying the required functionality of the system, always bearing in mind how this could improve both the efficiency of our operations and improving the performance of our customer’s technology assets. Sean has been the technical guru developing the e-Watchman application and writing the required software interfaces to make it happen. Much of their work has been carried out in their own time showing a true entrepreneurial culture.
