Graeme Cameron is Sustainability Manager for Serco Integrated Services and is based at our offices on the outskirts of Glasgow. He is passionate about protecting our environment.
Graeme is accountable for the delivery of our innovative carbon management programme aimed at significantly reducing Serco's carbon footprint.
Already, the programme that focuses on reducing carbon emissions linked to our transportation, operations and premises and has delivered impressive results, with a 24% reduction in carbon emissions in 2007.
Thinking innovatively is at the heart of this improvement. Just a snapshot of some of the latest initiatives include:
- Switching to bio-diesel to fuel our service; in 2007 we used over one million litres of bio-diesel, and in 2008 this will extend to refuse vehicles and vans
- Limiting the need for business travel by using conference call facilities, web conferencing and, at key locations, video conferencing
- Installing energy efficiency technologies both in our own buildings and those of our clients, including, intelligent lighting fixtures, improvements to air conditioning and heating plant, and waterless urinals
- A measurable and tailored carbon reduction plan for 2008, for every contract
- Partnership approach with our suppliers to reduce delivery frequencies and associated road travel, utilise low carbon products through our business
- Our carbon footprint externally verified every year by an independent auditor to ensure our carbon footprint is accurate
