Salary:  £35k to £55k dependent upon skills and experience

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity to join our experienced team of engineers and scientists providing support to high profile customers across the nuclear sector.  We are seeking to recruit Control & Instrumentation  engineers with experience in the Civil Nuclear Industry. 

Serco Technical & Assurance Services is a leading service company supplying technical support and advice to a number of customers, including clients within the government, defence and private sectors.  In the Civil Nuclear Business Group we apply our skills and experience within the growing nuclear sector to support safe, efficient, operation and decommissioning of nuclear plant.  We have a strong offering to support UK and international programmes for new nuclear plant. 

Within our 'Power Generation' business based at Quedgeley you will work with a team of experienced scientists and engineers contributing to project delivery in support of installation of new equipment, modifications to existing equipment, safety case justification and decommissioning work.  You are likely to also act as the main technical contributor and driver for individual projects.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate an aptitude for solving problems, developing solutions and communicating effectively through technical report writing.  Candidates should also have a demonstrable record of successful delivery and leadership together with a drive for business improvement.  The work is likely to involve working with clients at their sites.

Responsibilities (depending upon experience) may include

  • Analyzing problems, developing and implementing solutions in project teams. 
  • Specification, design and modification of C&I plant items.
  • Technical co-ordination throughout the life cycle of C&I based engineering projects.
  • Support to our customers in ensuring the quality of C&I projects delivered by third parties.
  • Supporting the production of safety cases to support engineering change on nuclear sites.
  • Overseeing site commissioning works and investigations at our customer sites throughout the UK.
  • Delivering work to agreed timescales and costs.
  • Interfacing with customers and third party contractors throughout the lifecycle of projects.
  • Representing the Department in technical meetings with clients and third parties.               
  • Identifying new business opportunities.
  • Leading/assisting with the production of contract proposals and bids.
  • Assisting in maintaining and developing the technical capability/knowledge of the team.

Requirements

  • Educated to Degree level in an appropriate discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Commitment to safety with good attention to detail and a questioning attitude.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Knowledge of high integrity C&I systems.
  • Experience of working with applicable standards (e.g. BSEN 61508).
  • Knowledge of technical computing methods and systems .
  • Knowledge and experience of civil reactor plant and its operation.
  • Knowledge and experience of the safety case process used on nuclear plant.

Desirable Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience of direct client and contractor interaction.
  • Experience of contract bid preparation and/or project management.
  • Chartered Engineer status.

Remuneration

A competitive salary (£35k - £55k) and remuneration package will be agreed depending on qualifications and experience.
