Nuclear Propulsion Safety Engineers

The Role
Serco SRD provides Independent Nuclear Safety Advice to the Royal Navy, supporting safe, available and effective nuclear propulsion.
SRD's Project Engineers conduct safety case assessments and co-ordinate the work of specialists across the complete range of nuclear-related technologies.
There will be opportunities to work in a variety of SRD project areas, ranging from supporting operational submarines to work on future reactor plant designs, including the most advanced of Britain's submarines - the Astute Class.
Responsibilities
- Conducting independent assessments of nuclear safety cases
- Co-ordinating assessments from specialist nuclear technology professionals
- Producing high quality technical reports on the outcome of your work
- Interfacing with colleagues in the naval nuclear propulsion community
- Contributing to the development of safety management practices
- Planning work and ensuring delivery to agreed timescales and costs
- Identifying and developing new business opportunities
Requirements - Education and Experience
- A degree or equivalent in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline
- Knowledge of naval nuclear propulsion systems and safety management is desirable, but not essential because comprehensive training will be provided
- Enthusiasm and aptitude for clear technical writing is important
- Enthusiasm for working directly with clients is important
- UK Drivers Licence is desirable because the post requires travel to customers' premises across the UK
- Security clearance to work on defence related projects will be required
Remuneration
The salary for this post is in the range of £24k through to £45k depending on relevant qualifications and experience.
