Nuclear Safety Case Managers

Location:  Warrington, Cheshire and Westlakes, Cumbria

Department:  Decommissioning & Safety Management, Civil Nuclear Business Group

Salary:  £45k to £55k depending on experience and qualifications 

The Roles

There are currently opportunities within Serco Technical and Assurance Services for experienced Nuclear Safety Consultants with a track record of leading the development of complex safety cases to be based at our offices in Warrington and Westlakes .We provide a range of safety consultancy and management services in the civil nuclear, nuclear defence as well as the transport, civil defence and homeland security sectors.

We are looking for Consultants who display the following aptitudes and experience:

  • Strong client-facing communication skills and delivery focus.
  • Ability to lead and deliver effective safety solutions within a multi-organisational consortium.
  • Ability to capture an overall view on technical, managerial and financial issues
  • Well developed analytical skills with the ability to distil and convey concise safety issues from detailed technical data.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate teams under pressure
  • Experience of authoring technical reports and/or safety justifications in the nuclear generation sector
  • Adaptable and able to work on a variety of projects, prioritising as appropriate

The Requirements

You will ideally have experience in the following technical and managerial areas.
  • Production of  Safety Case documentation in the nuclear industry including
  • Attendance at HAZOPs as Chair, Secretary or safety expert
  • Development of Fault Schedules
  • Production of HAZANs including appropriate analysis (consequence calculations etc)
  • Production of ALARP arguments
  • Experience of working on major projects and managing the various stakeholders and interfaces.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements.
  • Attendance at Customer's Nuclear Safety Committees and presentation of papers
  • Mentoring and training of less experienced consultants
  • Project Management and Financial Reporting

Responsibilities

  • Management of major safety case contracts
  • Provision of safety case consultancy
  • Monitoring and delivery of technical quality
  • Liaison with customers and regulators
  • Participation in safety case workshops/seminars
  • Participation in safety case training and development
  • Management of on the job development of teams

Serco recognises the importance of personal qualities amongst its consultants and in addition to your technical knowledge and experience you will need to demonstrate sound judgement and effective interpersonal skills.  Mobility is a fundamental element of consulting and a proportion of time may well need to be spent on client sites.  With this in mind, a full UK driving licence is essential.  

Remuneration

A competitive salary (in the range £45k to £55k) and remuneration package will be agreed depending on qualifications and experience.
