Senior Environmental Radioactive Consultant

Location:   Harwell, Oxfordshire; Westlakes, Cumbria

Department:   Waste Management & Environment, Civil Nuclear Business Group

Salary:   £30k to £45k, depending on qualifications and experience

The Opportunity

We are looking for an established professional with experience in Environmental Radioactivity who can help our clients manage their radioactive waste and nuclear liabilities in a safe, environmentally friendly and cost-effective manner.  You will have challenging technical and managerial opportunities in dealing with the many nuclear liabilities that must be addressed over the next 50 years or more.

You should have experience in a relevant field, and be an able project manager.  You should also have demonstrated an aptitude in developing new business and have a willingness to help our team develop new business streams.  You will have a good first, and possibly higher, degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.  You are likely to work at present within the nuclear industry, a nuclear consultancy or government agency where you may have a senior role.

The Role - Environmental Radioactivity

The successful candidate will be involved in a range of consultancy projects.  These typically include:

  • Assessing the impact of radioactivity in the environment
  • Assessment of radioactive discharges from nuclear facilities
  • Environmental modelling (atmospheric dispersion, marine dispersion, foodchain)
  • Impact of radioactivity on non-humans
  • BPM/BPEO studies
  • Expert advice on radiological issues
  • Regulatory support
  • Preparing regulatory submissions
  • Advising on operational safety issues
  • Emergency response

Duties in relation to these projects could involve:

  • Provision of technical consultancy
  • Programme and project management
  • Management of subcontractors
  • Report writing
  • Management of health and safety
  • Technical review

The successful candidates will be expected to play a significant role in business development, including the development of new contracts and business streams.  Demonstrable experience in this area is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary environment on a range of technically challenging problems, and will possess the following aptitudes:

  • Technically able and innovative
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work well in and also to manage multi-disciplinary teams
  • Adaptable and able to work on a number of varied projects at the same time
  • An enthusiasm for interacting with customers and for solving their problems
  • The ability to identify business opportunities and win work from customers

Previous Experience

The successful candidate will have several years' relevant experience after graduation.  They may be looking for an opportunity to broaden their career and take responsibility for winning and delivering a diverse range of consultancy and management services to the nuclear industry.  Alternatively they may already hold a relevant senior appointment.

Remuneration

A competitive salary (in the range £30k to £45k) and remuneration package will be agreed depending on qualifications and experience.
