Structural Assessment Engineer

The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced structural assessment engineer to develop their career within the nuclear power industry.
Serco Technical & Assurance Services is a leading service company supplying technical support and advice to various customers, including clients within the government, defence and private sectors. Within the Power Generation Group we work in several project areas, including support for the build, operation and decommissioning of nuclear power stations.
As part of a group of experienced scientists and engineers you will be contributing to project delivery teams but could also act as the main technical contributor and driver for individual projects in support of safety cases, plant modifications and decommissioning work.
A vacancy exists for a suitably qualified candidate in the structural analysis area (including low and high temperature assessment, finite element analysis and design code assessment). The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate an aptitude for solving problems and analysing data, as well as developing detailed computational models of real plant and written communication in technical reports. There will be opportunities to visit clients at their sites.

Responsibilities
- Structural analysis and assessment of pressure vessels and metallic components using a range of analytical methods, design codes and finite element modelling;
- Delivery of fit-for-purpose technical projects to time, cost and quality, with a focus on achieving high levels of customer satisfaction;
- Production of professional technical reports, working to tight quality standards and procedures;
- Interfacing with customers throughout the project lifecycle including specification, bidding, delivery and presentation of results;
- Supporting business and team development activities.
Minimum Requirements and Competencies
- A good degree (at least 2:1) in engineering (mechanical/aeronautical/mathematical), physics or mathematics, or the equivalent relevant experience;
- Significant experience (numerous and varied projects) in the structural assessment of safety-critical structures using R5, R6, finite element analysis and relevant design codes;
- The ability to work quickly and efficiently in accordance with agreed standards and procedures, producing accurate technical work that meets customer requirements;
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to prepare winning bids that lead to successful projects;
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret a variety of technical information;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent attention to detail;
- Able to work well as a project manager, as part of a team, or on own initiative;
- Able to obtain security clearance.
Desirable Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
- Experience in the structural assessment of moderator graphite;
- A full UK driving licence.
Remuneration
A competitive salary (£45k to £55k) and remuneration package will be agreed depending on qualifications and experience.
