Sellafield Contaminated Land Contract
Serco TAS, in technical partnership with Golder Associates, is working on a £10m two-year contract to examine and develop plans to clean up contaminated land at Sellafield.
Under the contract with Sellafield Ltd, Serco TAS and Golder Associates are examining the levels of contamination in the Separation Area, which has been identified by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority as one of the highest priority areas of Sellafield for clean-up.
The work includes assessment of the condition of the land and groundwater, mathematical modelling, development of a strategy for dealing with the contamination and identifying the technologies and actions needed for clean up.
A study of contamination outside Separation Area was completed by Sellafield Ltd in 2004.
This new contract is a second phase of work, designed to improve understanding of land quality in the area where historical leaks to ground occurred.
