New rolling stock for the Olympic Javelin service
Hitachi is one of Japan's principal rail vehicle manufacturers, having constructed a substantial number of the country's Shinkansen 'Bullet' trains. Serco supported Hitachi entry to the Uk market by operating a verification train ('V' Train) to demonstrate their technology and develop a Safety Case to progress the rigorous approvals for 'Route Acceptance' of their traction and power equipment.
Hitachi has now been awarded the contract to design, manufacture and maintain the class 395 train. Serco is now an integral part of the Hitachi delivery team. We are providing an integrated support package of testing strategy, programme management and testing services. This will ensure the class 395 trains meet customer, Network Rail and CTRL acceptance testing requirements.
