Security Risk

Risk management was born out of the need to address safety risks. This was later extended to cover security and reliability. Our consultants have been involved in this sector of risk management for more than forty years.

It is often the case that sites involving hazardous materials or operations are also vulnerable to security breaches. The security breaches do not need to be malicious to give rise to safety concerns. Indeed, security breaches can involve authorised people and the accidental initiation of safety-threatening incidents. For this reason, many projects require safety and security to be addressed in tandem.

Techniques such as HAZOP, fault tree analysis, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and matrix modelling are used prolifically in this type of risk work. The team has developed these skills over many years and team members are proficient in all areas. But there is never an attempt to make the problem fit the tool. Where appropriate, team members use alternative tools, or use their experience and ingenuity to create new or modified methods to suit the problem.
