- The usability group emerged from the MMI (Man-Machine Interaction) group at the National Physical Laboratory in the early 1970’s. Involved in the foundation of the British HCI Group, Serco Usability Services hosted the first UK Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) conference in 1987.
- In 1998 Serco Group Plc won a contract to manage the National Physical Laboratory. The usability group was officially renamed to Serco Usability Services, and the company strengthened its commercial client base.
- In 1999 Serco acquired Australia’s market leading usability and design company, The Hiser Group.
- In 2000 the UK group moved into new offices in Holborn, London. The new offices included two state-of-the-art viewing facilities designed and specified by usability consultants. Updated regularly with new technology, they are still the best usability labs in London.
- In 2005 Serco Usability Services co-founded the User Experience Alliance, an international partnership of leading user experience consultancies across Europe, Asia and North America. The alliance was formed in recognition of growing client demand for effective international user experience services.
- Serco Usability Services has gone from strength to strength. It has an enviable client list of public and private sector clients and employs world-recognised experts in usability and accessibility. Experts cover a wide range of technologies including the web, interactive TV, mobile services and gaming.
