Simon Herd has co-authored a short paper to present at the CHI 2005 conference in Portland, United States. The paper was a result of a joint project with University College London investigating how alternative security technologies for online banking were used in practice in the United Kingdom and Sweden. Simon says, “News stories about growing threats to online banking security, such as phishing and personal identify fraud appear in the media almost every day, with a 4000% increase in online identify frauds last year. While the Banking industry has an obvious need to respond to this threat, it needs to do so in a way that is usable and does not damage use of their online services. Any changes could have a significant impact in the uptake of online services so are in need of research.” The full paper will be published on this site in due course. In addition Nigel Bevan will be participating in the CHI 2005 Development Consortium in April: "Meeting the Needs of the Multidisciplinary Professional and of the Multiple Professional Associations". More details can be found on the CHI 2005 website.
